Have Vampires Bit the Dust?

The popularity of vampire novels soared during the glory days of the Twilight series. Following the release of the first novel in 2005, new vampire series for teens flooded the publishing market. In 2006, the following books, all to become the first in a series, appeared on the shelves: Glass Houses (Morganville Vampires,) Blue Bloods (Blue Bloods,) Boys That Bite (Blood Coven,) and Bloodlust (Vampire Beach.) The following year introduced Marked (House of Night,) Tantalize (Tantalize,) and Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy.) By the time the final volume in the Twilight series, Breaking Dawn, came out in 2010, teen vampire series had expanded to include Evernight (Evernight,) Eighth Grade Bites (The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod,) The Summoning (Darkest Powers,) and more. You could say that the vampires were really biting.

Some of these series are still producing new installments. House of Night has its tenth book coming out later this year. But vampire novels have gradually given way to paranormal romances between humans and zombies, fairies, werewolves, angels, monsters, and half-breeds of all types. It looks like the publishing world is moving on. But have teen readers?

What about you? Let us know if you still want the vampire novels coming. The libraries love to get feedback from teen patrons so that we can select the materials that you like.
